Final Reflection
Of all the works I created this semester, the film poster project represents my creativity the best. During this task, I went through the process of exploring, analyzing, learning, and finally creating my own task. It was the first time I truly understood that how much effort and detail are need in a single image. I had to think carefully about many elements, such as the target audience, composition, visual balance, and how to make the poster attract the audiences. This project also inspired my passion for media and helped me develop a deeper understanding of how images show the stories and emotions.
If I had the chance to do it again, I would focus on improving my technical skills. I want to learn more professional design software so that my work can show higher precision and more refined visual expression. Through the process of analyzing different movie posters, I learned about common conventions and the visual codes. In addition, by exploring composition, lighting, and color in Task1, I also improved my photography sense. These experiences taught me how different colors and layouts express emotions and create atmosphere. These projects helped me realize that visual storytelling is not only about beauty or professional skill but also about the feeling of people.
The creative experience made me more interested in both photography and design. It encouraged me to explore new possibilities in how I present my ideas. Working with my group also strengthened my ability to communicate, organize, and solve problems with others. These skills will help me in future studies and work. I learned to see design as a bridge between imagination and expression, and that every small detail matters in shaping the viewer's feelings.
One of the biggest challenges I faced in this course was recording our podcast project. At first, it was difficult to sound natural and confident because we were just reading from a script. It didn't feel like a real conversation. To solve this problem, our group listened to some professional podcasts and learned how hosts use tone, emotion, and short natural expressions to sound engaging. We also tried to make our speech more casual and relaxed, rather than reading in an academic way. This process taught me that teamwork is essential. When creating media content, everyone has a role to play, and collaboration makes the final product stronger. I learned to speak up when problems appeared and to solve them quickly instead of ignoring them.
This experience also changed how I view teamwork. I realized that everyone is important, and a good project depends on mutual support. A single person's effort is never enough. When everyone contributes their own strengths, the result will be much more powerful. This taught me the importance of trust, communication, and shared responsibility in creative work.
Through this course, my understanding of media has also changed. Now, I believe media not just as a tool of expressing oneself but also as a powerful force that can shape social values and public opinions. Because of this, we need to use media responsibly and critically, avoiding misinformation or misuse. Theories we learned, such as Potter (2011), helped me understand how media can influence people's thoughts like family, classmates, or even leaders will see different 'you' though media. In today's information age, media makes communication easier but also spreads false or exaggerated messages. I learned the importance of developing media literacy to recognize reliable information and think critically about what we see online.
This knowledge will continue to impact on how I create and analyse media in the future. I will always try to look at media from different perspectives and ask deeper questions about what message it delivers, and how it affects the audience. Overall, this course taught me to connect creativity with awareness. It made me more confident in expressing ideas and more thoughtful about the impact that media can have on people and society.
